Art, comics, graphic design and web development by the artist: Matthew Taylor
Graphic design can be a lot of hard work. I have found the main reason for this is that invariably you are creating a design for someone who knows nothing about good design principles. It can be very disheartening when a client chooses a poorly developed concept over a well thought-out and intelligent idea. When this happens it becomes difficult to remain motivated while working on the project.
But a good graphic designer can overcome this problem by turning to salesmanship. If there is a logical reason for a particular design feature then the client needs to understand this in order to make the best possible decision when choosing a concept. It is in the best interests of both the designer and the client that the most appropriate design is chosen, so I always spend as much time as necessary explaining or selling the reasons behind my ideas.
There are so many areas of graphic design now-a-days but my favourite is definitely logo design. I have built a huge number of logos over the years and I still enjoy it. The perfectionist in me comes out to play when I'm resolving and simplifying my ideas as I work. I just love this process of removing all unnecessary parts until only the essential elements remain. The best logos, I believe, are simple clever designs that convey a strong, clear meaning.

'Color is crucial in painting, but it is very hard to talk about. There is almost nothing you can say that holds up as a generalization, because it depends on too many factors: size, modulation, the rest of the field, a certain consistency that color has with forms, and the statement you're trying to make.' - Roy Lichtenstein
