Art, comics, graphic design and web development by the artist: Matthew Taylor

Male portrait study.
I've started using white in a much more subtle way and I think it really helps. For a little while I was using strong white and using the paper colour as the shadow areas, but now I've found that it's much better to put in the shadows with blocks of tone and save the white for just the highlights.
It gives a much more refined look.

'The portrait is one of the most curious art forms. It demands special qualities in the artist, and an almost total kinship with the model.' - Henri Matisse
